Biarritz- the Olympics of surfing

  Every year on the beach of Côte des Basques (Basque Coast) the Hawaiian spirit of Aloha makes its presence felt through the festivities and competitions of the Biarritz Surf Festival.

 For a whole week the beach in Biarritz becomes home to some of the greatest names in world surfing, as the summer kicks off with the biggest surf event in Europe.

Over 100,000 people gather every year to enjoy the good music, films, and above all get a taste of the wonderful, thrilling world of surfing. The surf festival starts every year with the now traditional mixing of the waters, between the surfers arriving from around the globe, and continues with the main events of long board surfing, tandem surfing, paddle board racing and Tahitian pirogues. During the festival the public has many opportunities to try out paddle boarding, long board surfing, bodysurfing and the pirogues, with the surfers to guide them. As the festival continues and the summer days grow bigger, the dusk ocean view of Biarritz gets even more beautiful. And summer evenings in Biarritz during the festival are never boring as night time Hawaiian surf shows make it an absolute must not only on the surfing calendar, but on the “dream vacation spot” one as well.
